Prep Hockey

What is Blyth Academy Prep Hockey?

Blyth Academy Prep Hockey is for hockey players who want to compete at the highest level and get exposure to NCAA options in the game. This is for the player who knows they want to attend university and is looking for opportunities to play top level hockey while attending school.

Blyth Academy Prep Hockey is also for the 16 year old player who wants to prepare for OHL or Junior Hockey. The program offers exposure by participating in highly scouted events. The players train more often than what is available in most traditional Midget programs and compete against Junior level teams.

What is different about Blyth Academy’s Prep Hockey Program?

The biggest difference in the Blyth Academy’s Prep Hockey program is that players can either attend Blyth Academy or can continue to attend public school and participate in the program. Blyth Academy’s programming is developed specifically to accommodate elite athletes and there are many options to fulfill students’ individual needs (eg. Private classes, courses available in the evenings, weekends, summer, and 10 week terms).

The program includes a minimum of 160 hours of on-ice training and 160 hours of off-ice Twist sport conditioning. Transportation and hotel costs are included in the fees. There are also individual training options available. The Blyth Academy’s Prep Hockey program also maintains a relationship with a Junior A program as Blyth’s coaches are also coaches of the Junior A team. This means that there are opportunities for the Prep Hockey players to practice with the Junior A team.

What does the Blyth Academy Prep Hockey program offer?

Will prep school hockey get me exposure with university scouts?

Yes. The prep school circuit is perhaps the most heavily recruited high school league in the United States. Former prep players dot university rosters around the country, and many prep players have gone on to the National Hockey League and minor pro leagues.

Why is prep school hockey so strong?

University and pro scouts return year after year to watch the prep schools in action, and many recognize the prep school level as among the best for this age group. Since schools attract players from around North America and beyond, there is a kind of all-star system in effect. In addition, there is a great deal of ice time available during the season. The partnership between Blyth Academy and Conacher Athletics gives our Prep team access to multiple venues and training options. This allows our team  to get ample ice time and sport specific training every day. Typically, a prep school team will practice  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and play games on Friday and Saturday.  This access to ice time gives our program an advantage over local high schools and many minor hockey programs.
